Siegers Seed Company Forms Product Development Team

Holland, Mich. - Siegers Seed Company is pleased to announce the creation of a product development team for the benefit of their customers. Effective May 15, 2005, Jamie Scholten, of Allendale, Mich., will assume the position of Product Development Coordinator. To assist him, Siegers Seed Company has also hired Steven Van DerMeid, of Rochester, New York.

"For the first time, Siegers Seed Company will have two people dedicated solely to product development research," said Roy Pearman, Director of Sales and Marketing at Siegers Seed Company. "Both young men have excellent technical skills. Jamie has a background in farming and vegetable production, as well as a Bachelor's degree in business. Steve has a Bachelor's degree in molecular genetics and is very research oriented. With their abilities, we are now in a position to stay ahead of market demands, which is a great benefit to our customers."

Pearman went on to explain that shifting consumer demands and changing disease pressures can cause commercial growers to have to look for alternative varieties in order to stay in business. Scholten and Van DerMeid will travel all over the eastern half of the United States and part of Canada to analyze regional variety needs and identify new varieties that meet those needs.

"We do over 4,000 trials a year, of which less than 20 new varieties are determined by our product development research to be worthy of sale to our customers," said Pearman. "We need to prove new varieties to ourselves first. When we do offer a new variety to our customers, we know its positive traits and the best way to grow it for success."
